Mobile Applications With LEDs

The portable and mobile market is one of the fastest growing market segments in the industry. As the trend for portable and mobile applications increases, the demand for compact, easy to use LED backlight solutions grows dramatically. OEM's are not only demanding smaller, thinner and more efficient packages, but they are also increasingly using Blue LEDs and White LEDs in their applications. The use of White LEDs has dramatically risen over the last several years due in part to the continual improvements in brightness and reliability of White LEDs and also to the trend for portable devices to move from monochrome to full color LCD displays which require small efficient white light backlighting.

Incorporates a Pulse Current Drive Mode that raises efficiency over 90% while driving up to six GaN type LEDs in a series connection. (more if using InGaAlP or other materials) In Direct Current Drive Mode, White LEDs can be driven with very low noise. Over 85% efficiency. Allows for a reduction in the external component count therefore lowering costs and improving battery life. Newly developed temperature derating technology senses environmental temperature, including heat dissipating from the driver IC itself, and adjusts current to optimize light emission.
