There are two different ways of making white LED light. The first way that a white light led produces its color is by combining red, green, and blue (RGB) together to make white. Sometimes this is also called a multi-colored white LED. Combining these colors to make a white light is a complicated process, so it is often passed over when it comes to mass producing white lights. This process, however, is extremely interesting for researchers and scientists because it can be modeled to produce a wide variety of colors when combining other existing colors.

The other method that is used by a LED manufacturer to make white light is the phosphor based method. This process basically consists of coating a LED, which is most often blue, with varying colors of phosphor to produce a white colored light. This type of light is less efficient that the RGB method, but it is much simpler to effectively produce. Because of this, the phosphor method is most often used when mass producing white LEDs.
